Hip Labral Tears Treatment

The hip joint is a deep, ball-and-socket configuration that is under excessive weight and stress with movement. One of the hip injuries that can occur is a labral tear within the joint. Trauma, structural issues and disease can contribute to hip labral tears that can cause intense pain and limit mobility. Caliber Pain™ offers interventional hip labral tear treatment at our clinic in UES New York City.

Causes and Symptoms of Hip Labral Tears

The acetabulum is the socket portion of the ball-and-socket hip joint, which is covered by a fibrocartilage tissue called the labrum. The labrum protects the head of the femur (the ball) and the acetabulum from friction during movement. It also acts like a gasket to hold joint fluid in place for lubrication. When a tear occurs in the labrum, it can cause pain and restrict the smooth movement of the hip joint. Hip labral tears can be caused by:

  • Trauma or injury – impact sports are the most common cause of injuries to the labrum
  • Structural issues – femoral head abnormalities can cause disruption of hip joint movement and labral tears
  • Arthritis and degenerative disease – wear and tear on the cartilage in the hip joint from degenerative disease can lead to hip labral tears

The symptoms of hip labral tears include groin/buttock pain, popping in the hip joint, stiffness in the hip and instability. Once the labrum is torn, it cannot heal on its own. Symptoms generally will continue to worsen without treatment.

Caliber Pain™ offers non-invasive hip labral tear treatment to reduce pain and improve mobility. We utilize a multidisciplinary approach, including interventional and regenerative medicine to help manage chronic pain conditions without surgery. Physical therapy, corticosteroid injections, regenerative injections and other therapies can offer pain reduction and improved mobility for those with hip labral tears.
