Knee Joint Steroid Injection
Inflammation in the knee joint is a common cause of acute and chronic knee pain. Inflammation can be linked to arthritis, bursitis, bone spurs and other knee conditions. Reducing knee joint inflammation can help relieve pain and also minimize damage to the joint caused by inflammation. At Caliber Pain™ in New York City, we offer knee joint steroid injections to reduce inflammation and pain.
Corticosteroids are anti-inflammatory medications that can provide pain relief when injected directly into the joint. They reduce inflammation that causes pain and swelling. A small amount of anesthetic is added, in addition to corticosteroids, to provide immediate pain relief. It wears off in a few hours after the injection. Some knee joint pain may return before the steroid begins to work, 2 to 3 days later. For some people, a corticosteroid injection provides pain relief that lasts for many months, and in others, the injection doesn’t work at all or for a shorter period of time. Two or three corticosteroid injections are the maximum you can receive in a one-year period.
Non-Invasive Knee Pain Relief
Knee joint steroid injections offer a non-invasive option for controlling or managing knee pain. Our physicians can perform the procedure at our medical facility in less than a half hour. We use image guided knee joint steroid injections to deliver anti-inflammatory medication directly to the area of the knee that is causing pain. After the procedure, we monitor the effects for 20-30 minutes while you relax at our clinic.
If you have knee joint pain from osteoarthritis or other types of inflammation, knee joint steroid injections may offer long-term relief. Contact our specialists at Caliber Pain™ in Midtown Manhattan to schedule an evaluation. They will determine what type of interventional treatment will work best to manage your knee pain without opioids.
