Hip Arthritis/Osteoarthritis Treatment

The hip joint is one of the largest joints of the body. It allows for normal everyday movements like standing upright, sitting and walking. The hip is a “ball and socket” joint, with the end of the thigh bone rounded and fitting into a socket in the pelvis. The ends of the bones are covered with articular cartilage. Articular cartilage is a slick substance that helps the joint move freely. When the cartilage is worn or deteriorating from use or injury, osteoarthritis, or joint inflammation, can occur. Caliber Pain™ offers hip arthritis/osteoarthritis treatment at our clinic in NYC.

Relief for Hip Pain

Hip arthritis pain may be associated with damage or disorders of the tissues in and around the hip joint that causes inflammation. Many forms of hip arthritis pain are localized to the joint itself. Hip pain can also radiate further down the leg. Your pain may intensify and progress to the point that everyday activities are unbearable, and treatment is necessary to maintain your mobility. If conservative modalities do not provide adequate relief, the following interventional therapies may be the next option before any consideration of surgery:

  • Epidural injections of a combination of an anesthetic and steroid can provide immediate pain relief and reduction of inflammation. These injections can be followed by a regenerative option such as stem cells, nerve growth factor or PRP for longer-term healing and tissue repair. The regenerative options may be an appropriate first choice if immediate pain relief is not urgent.
  • Acupuncture
  • Nerve blocks
  • Spinal cord stimulation
  • Ketamine infusion
  • Synovial fluid – Glucosamine replacement
  • Radiofrequency neurolysis
