Herniated Discs Treatment

When a spinal disc is damaged due to injury or deterioration, it can herniate and put pressure on surrounding tissue and nerves. Herniated discs are a common cause of chronic neck and lower back pain. If you have herniated disc symptoms and pain, there are options for relief. Caliber Pain™ in Manhattan offers herniated disc treatment to relieve neck and back pain.

Causes and Symptoms of Herniated Discs

Spinal discs have a soft inner core that is covered by a hard exterior. Each disc works like a cushion or shock absorber for the vertebrae, protecting the spinal cord, vertebrae and nerves during movement. When the outer layer of a spinal disc tears or ruptures, the inner gel can protrude and put pressure on surrounding nerves and tissue. This can cause inflammation and pain, and most herniated discs occur in the neck or lower back, resulting in localized and radiating extremity pain to arms and legs. Herniated discs can be caused by impact or trauma to the spine, or routine wear and tear. Herniated discs are more common with aging, as the spinal discs become more brittle due to loss of moisture.

At Caliber Pain™, we offer herniated disc treatment using a multidisciplinary approach. Our pain and spine specialists focus on conservative and minimally-invasive options to relieve pain and discomfort from herniated discs. Injection therapy to relieve inflammation can be used for pain relief and as a diagnostic tool. We also may use diagnostic discography to pinpoint damaged discs that may be causing neck or back pain. Treatment plans can include physical therapy, interventional medicine, regenerative medicine and other modalities to improve mobility and reduce pain for those suffering from herniated discs.

If you have been diagnosed with a herniated disc or have chronic neck or back pain, come see our pain specialists at Caliber Pain™. We can diagnose and treat herniated discs at our cutting-edge pain treatment facility in NYC.
