Thoracic Back Pain Treatment

The mid or upper back is the least likely to have an injury or spinal disorder. The thoracic spine is better protected than the cervical (neck) or lumbar (lower back) regions, with less stress and strain put on this region. When mid or upper back pain occurs, it is often a musculoskeletal injury, but not always. If you are suffering from upper back issues, Caliber Pain™ offers thoracic back pain treatment at our clinic in New York City.

Causes of Mid Back Pain

The thoracic spine runs from the base of the neck to the abdomen and is attached to the ribcage. The support of the ribs helps stabilize this area of the spine and is another reason it is less susceptible to injury or deterioration than the cervical or lumbar spine. The mid to upper spine is less mobile, resulting in less wear and tear. When thoracic back pain occurs, it is most commonly myofascial or muscular pain from strain from poor posture, neck strain or lifting injuries. Spine disorders can also cause upper and mid back pain, including:

  • Spinal osteoarthritis
  • Compression fractures (osteoporosis)
  • Herniated discs
  • Facet joint pain syndrome or other facet joint disorders

Conservative treatment for thoracic back pain can often offer relief. Rest, OTC pain medications, physical therapy and myofascial treatments can resolve many soft tissue injuries. If thoracic pain is caused by a mechanical spine issue, treatment depends on the type of disorder. We offer interventional and regenerative thoracic back pain treatments that can offer relief for our patients.

If you have upper or mid back pain that does not respond to conservative treatments, contact our team at Caliber Pain™ in Midtown Manhattan. We can perform a thorough evaluation to determine the source of your thoracic pain and create an effective treatment plan to give you relief.
