The local anesthetic can offer immediate pain relief by numbing the area. The steroid may take 3-4 days to begin relieving inflammation to offer pain relief. Other treatments may be recommended in combination with the piriformis muscle injection, such as physical therapy. Some patients may need repeated injection treatments to relieve inflammation.
