Concept of cosmetic injection - hyaluronic acid.

Hyaluronic Acid – Viscosupplementation Knee Injections

Knee pain can be caused by a variety of injuries or degenerative conditions. One of the common causes of knee pain and dysfunction is a change in the lubrication of the joint. When the knee joint has inadequate lubrication, it can cause friction and pain with movement. Hyaluronic acid, or viscosupplementation knee injections, can offer pain relief if the joint is lacking lubrication. Caliber Pain™ offers hyaluronic acid knee injection for pain relief and improved mobility at our clinic in UES New York City.

Your joints contain a small amount of a gel-like substance called synovial fluid. Hyaluronic acid is a component of synovial fluid. It helps make the fluid thick and viscous, and it cushions and lubricates the joint. If synovial fluid thins out, it becomes less effective as a lubricator. Our doctors can inject a hyaluronic acid product into the joint space to address the changes in synovial fluid. This pain management injection is designed to improve the joint’s gliding motion. This improved joint function may provide pain relief that lasts months or longer. We may recommend a single injection or a series of three injections administered once per week. Generally, hyaluronic acid viscosupplementation knee injections are administered a maximum of twice per year.

Hyaluronic Acid Injection Recovery

You can return home or to work immediately. The injection site may be swollen or tender for one or two days. We may recommend icing two or three times a day or taking an over-the-counter medication if you are uncomfortable. It may take several weeks to see improvement after a hyaluronic acid knee injection. We suggest limiting high-impact activity, such as running, until symptoms improve.

If you suffer from knee pain, come visit our pain specialists for diagnosis and interventional treatment options. We offer innovative treatments, like hyaluronic acid knee injections, at our medical facility in Midtown Manhattan.
