Pain Management Specialist

Dr. Alexander Nguyen, or Dr. Alex, as his patients call him, is an Interventional Pain Management Specialist who is double-board certified in Pain Medicine and Anesthesiology. He completed his MD program at University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Dr. Alex completed his Anesthesiology Residency and Pain Medicine Fellowship at Virginia Mason in Seattle. After finishing his residency, he trained at both academic and public hospitals honing his pain management prowess. Besides being a highly qualified Pain Management Specialist, Dr. Alex also serves as an assistant professor at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

Dr. Alex is interested in treating a wide range of acute and chronic pain disorders including neck and low back pain, facet pain, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, sacroiliac (SI) joint pain, joint related pain (knees, shoulders, hips, ankles, elbows), complex regional pain syndrome, and post-laminectomy pain syndrome. He is also an expert in non-surgical treatments of musculoskeletal injuries with a primary focus on sport injuries. Dr. Alex’s holistic approach to patient care by incorporating medication – including steroidal and trigger point injections – physical therapy, and lifestyle modifications into treatment plans help his patients achieve a better level of health and well-being from their acute and chronic conditions without surgical intervention. When needed, Dr. Alex is well-versed in cutting edge treatments, such as Minimally Invasive Lumbar Decompression (MILD) procedure, Ketamine Infusion Therapy, Dorsal Root Ganglion (DRG) stimulation, Basivertebral Nerve (BVN) Ablation, Stellate Ganglion Blocks (SGB), Celiac Plexus Blocks, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), and Epidural Steroid Injections. He attentively listens to each patient and develops an individualized diagnosis and treatment plan based on the patient’s history, physical examination and diagnostic studies.

Dr. Alex is the author of several peer-reviewed studies, and is a recognized expert in pain medicine. In his free time, he enjoys being an Eagle Scout, cooking, traveling, charity work, and spending time with his family and friends. Dr. Alex’s well-rounded training background, peer-reviewed studies, and dedication to treating each patient as a family member has been instrumental in helping his patients decrease pain, improve mobility, and increase their overall quality of life.
